Intuniv and Provigil for newly diagnosed ADD
I was diagnosed with ADD last week. Its such a relief and something I have suspected for years. I went to a psychiatrist who said she specialized in ADD. The doctor had me fill out a questionaire, asked me questions for 5 minutes and then said, yes, you have ADD. She drew out all the treatment options and said she wanted to start me on Intuniv with Provigil. I agreed and have been taking them for a week. Now that I am doing more research online, I see that Intuniv is an almost brand new drug and Provigil is for sleep issues. When she outlined my treatment options, I thought Provigil was similar to Adderall and Rittilan. Also, she didn't tell me if I have ADHD Inatentive Type or the Mixed type. No one has EVER called me hyperactive, but I do have problems with talking over people, blurting out things, waiting my turn during games (although not waiting in lines or in traffic), overeating and overdrinking. She said to come back in three weeks and we would discuss my reaction to the meds and what other types of therapies would be beneficial to me.
So why am I posting? First, has anyone heard of Intuniv with Provigil as an ADD treatment? I can't seem to find any info on this combo anywhere. Secondly, should I seek out a different doctor who might give me more indepth testing? It was difficult to find a doctor who took my insurance and was accepting new patients or wasn't booked up three months in advance.
Thanks for your help.
