My doctor has written me a prescription for this drug to see if it works better/differently than the Adderall I take. I assume methylphenidate is a generic, what is the brand name equivalent?

Does anyone have any experience with either or both of these drugs? Does one work better than the other? Or does it depend on the person? I think the doses are small, 5mg for the adderall, 10 for the methylphenidate.

You likely would know methylphenidate as Ritalin. It will have similar effects to Adderall, but may or may not work better for you. Amphetamine and methylphenidate are very similar, and differences will be subtle, however, methylphenidate may fit your personal chemistry better than amphetamine.

Finding the right medication and the right dose is a process that can be a pain, as each person will respond differently to the different medications. Where Adderall is more effective for me, Ritalin may be more effective for you. While Jane can get by with 5mg/day or less, I need significantly more.

I've heard of methylphenidate being prescribed in conjunction with stuff like Vyvanse that is more controlled release and works longer-lasting throughout the day, so sometimes people take either one or the other...sometimes both at the same time depending on the day.
