Post Need suggestions for 12 yr. old daughter

I am at a loss as to how to direct my daughter in the right direction. I will give her one instruction at a time eg: "please empty the trash". She will say, "OK" and walk right past it and head out the door or to whatever activity she wants to do. She has been unable to follow a simple chores chart, saying she forgets to look at it. She can take something out of a wrapper or container and throw the wrapper on the floor.
I will say, "Please pick that up and put it in the trash", and she looks at me like I have lost my mind and says, "What?" She is extremely impulsive, is always on the move and when she relates an event, she embelishes to her favor. She has had these behaviors since she was a pre-schooler. Behavior modification is a joke for my girl -she has great difficulty being consistant and I am tired of the constant reminders.

Has she been evaluated first by your family doctor and then secondly by a psychiatrist or psychologist? The medical doctor needs to be seen first to rule out any medical problems and then have them refer you to a competent psych professional so that you both can get some help to straighten out the problems. Since you have not been able to get any results on your own then it is certainly time to seek professional help. Good Luck.

I am 21 now, but that sounds just like me when i was younger, my parents never understood, but I really forgot to do little things that they would ask me to do. I was on and off my med. for ADD when I was younger, and these problems always got worse when I was off. When a person has ADD, it is so hard to understand what they go through unless you have it to. I still am like that now if I don't take my medication. I think you should have your daughter tested, because if you get her on some kind of medication while she is young, it will benefit her later. If she doesn't have it, she might grow out of it.

ADD often comes w/ opisitional difiance dis-order. I would take her to a psychiatrist.
I have suffert years of torture before i finally took him toa psych Dr. finally he was properly diognosed. He had bi-polar with adhd. The drugs used for adhd cannot be giver to a kid with bi-polar they made him violent. All that time I thought I had given birth to some evil being. After he was diognosed and treated with the correct meds I found I had a very loving child. It took 12 years and each year he got worse. Now at 13 he is a different boy all together. Resperdal for the bp and Adderall for adhd.
Dont rely on a pediatrician or general practition....Go strait to a psych.

Start watching your kids diets!
Don't give them sweets and pre-packaged, or convenience foods. This list is HUGE and includes the 'cheese slices wrapped in plastic'as noted by the lady with the 8 yr old. This cheese is 'processed cheese food' and has almost no nutritional value.
For convenience, most people buy into 'convenience foods' which save time and some think, money. Hey, time is money, right? Not when it comes to nutrition! Study after study have confirmed that most children are not getting the necessary nutrition from the food that they eat due to 'over processing' and hybrid foods.
Start your kids on a diet of : no junk food. No processed food. No pre-packaged food.
Read ALL labels of what you buy.
Start eating natural products, organic is best, supplement with 50mg B complex vitamins, and 20mg Zinc, add 100mg vitamin c. Increase thier water intake and get them off soft drinks, or sweetened juices. If you are using fabric softeners, stop immediately! Use white vinegar in its place. It will work just as well without any side effects caused by the 'chemicals' and perfumes in fabric softeners!
BY the way, the fabric softener bit has been proven also and in Canada, all fabric softeners must now be sold with a 'toxic warning' note on them.
