hi all! my 6 year old daughter has an appt. to be evaluated for ADD next week. what should we expect at the doctors office? what tests will they do? what kind of questions do they ask? thank you in advance, i'm at my wits end! kim.
Testing for ADD generally involves a questionaire for the parents that deals with there behaviors since they were a baby as well as a Tova test for your child. The Tova test basically consists of a computer screen and your child holds a button device in his hand. There will be a flashing red dot on the screen and during one part of the test it flashes slowly at random to see if they can stay on task and click the button when they see the light. In the other half of the test the red light flashes fast and pauses and that is to see if they can stay on task enough to take there finger off the button when the light does not flash. These tests are usually done at clinic that specialize in ADD/ADHD testing. If you have any other questions please ask. One the psychiatrist checks the questionaire answers as well as the results of the tova test they will be able to make a diagnosis of what problem if any your child has. I have one ADD child and one who tested out with ADD tendencies but no true ADD.
