Concerned over sister - ADD / ADHD Message Board

My sister was just recently diagnosed with ADHD she is 36. Since she has been on medication she has not been the same(I am not sure if it is Ritalin she is on or not) She does not comprehend the simplies things and has been very arguementive and nothing you say to her makes sense.She also is in a constant PMS mood. And has been childish. I was wondering what the side of effects are of one taking meds for ADHD. Her mental status changed after starting the meds and I know at first she had trouble sleeping after started them. But now this is happening and she does not see it. I need some insight on this please.Thank you!

Since your sister is of legal age there is not much you can do. Since it started once she started taking meds I would assume she is having nasty side effects from the medication. Your best bet is to talk to a close friend of hers and she if she can get her to listen to her and let try to talk her into seeing the doctor because things aren't right. I would assume that she was thoroughly tested for ADD/ADHD at a competent clinic that does testing for this sort of thing. For now be supportive and hang in their for her. If the occasion arises where you can suggest that maybe another medication would work better for her without so many side effects go ahead and suggest this. Good Luck.
