Dexetrine?? Any info.? (Adult with ADHD) - ADD / ADHD Message Board

I'm new to this forum and have found it very interesting! I'm a 35 yr old female that has been struggling with ADD all my life. Only in recent years has it been addressed. My "new" neurologist just put me on Dexetrine. I have never been on meds for my ADD,except Zoloft. This does not seem to be working very well. I've notice that no one in this forum (at least in the last 60 days) has discussed the use of Dexetrine. In fact, I had a hard time filling this perscription. I had to go to 4 different drug stores. Anyway, today was my first day (4-15-02). I hope I'm doing the right thing? Thanks!

I have been treated for adult ADHD for the past five years with dexedrine. I have found that only the name brand dexedrine provides favorable results. The generic brand resulted in a physically ill state much the same as ritalin had caused when I had tried it originally. I have found that if I take too much then the dexedrine causes more harm than good. I have also found that there are times when it just stops working. Dexedrine has been the easiest medication for me to comply with, but three weeks ago I started a new med called Provigil and so far it has been great. I havnt experienced any of the shakiness, clenched jaw, anxiety,racing heart, etc.. as I have experienced with the Dexedrine. I was taking 7.5mg Dexedrine three times per day and now i am taking 50mg of Provigil once a day. My mood is much better and my sleep has improved.

Our 8-year-old daughter just started on dexedrine on Sunday for ADHD Innattentive Type. At this point, it seems to work well with the attention problem. She's asking to do math and is attentive for long periods of time! The side effects may cause us to discontinue or reduce dosage (she's on spansule 10mg 1x/day). Side effects are insomnia, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite. We wish you luck.

I have been on Dexidrine for 6 years now. I was a 38 yr. old male when I was finally diagnosed and started treatment. I was on Ritalin for the first 2 yrs. Here are a few things I have found with me.
1. I stay away from the generic, wierd side effects.
2. I take the Tablets, the spatials give wierd side effects.
3. If I take a lot to much it acts like speed, if I take a little to much it makes me sleepy.
4. For the past year now I have been taking one capsule twice a day of Omega 3 Fatty acids, and have been able to reduce my meds by 67%.
