fish oil help on dosage - ADD / ADHD Message Board

After reading the posting on fish oil I checked at a health store. The only thing they had 3,6,9 was 180,120,23mg. The directions stated two a day. I am interested in trying this on my 12 year old son. He is not on any meds as we tried it and he had many problems. I also have heard that a childrens multiple vitamin helps. The health store sales person was not sure the above fish oil would be okay for this age. School is a nightmare. Disruptive, not doing homework, telling fibs and all that goes with this. Can anyone help with the dosage as I will try anything?

That sounds like the strength I take and I take two per day. I don't think that that would be to strong for a child. I know for ADD body size has nothing to do about dosage. I have been on fish oil for almost a year now, and it has allowed me to reduce my Dexidrine from 22.5 mg per day to 5 mg. hope this helps

Hi Markie, My 9 year old son has ADD (inattentive type) and he is now taking 1000 mgs of the fish oil daily. Is that enough? He is not at all hyper, in fact he is pretty spacey. What will the fish oil do to help him? I thought it helped ADHD people calm down and focus. He is already too calm. I am so confused on all of this.

get a fish oil with alot of DHA, EPA is also a plus, but you want one with the most DHA..maybe give Cod Liver Oil a try, you want at least 1000gram of DHA alone (those other fish oils caps only have like 180mg of DHA per pill), I myself take about 4gr a day for anxiety

As far as your question about calming him down. The calming effect to me also applies to anxiety, which can be a problem. Also remember that the effects from fish oil can take time. I am still adjusting my meds almost a year after I first started taking them. Be patient, for the effects to work.
