Adderall XR and loss of appetite - ADD / ADHD Message Board

For those of you who are or were on Adderall XR, do/did you experience loss of appetite? I used to have a huge apetite, I would usually get 3 burgers at a fast food place but now I sometimes can't even finish 1. I am worried because I don't want to get skinny. I have never been over weight nor have I been too skinny and im at that time where eating a lot is more important because im growing so fast and getting skinny is the last thing I need. What can I do about this?

Loss of appetite is one of the most common side effects from taking adderall or ritalin. I have taken adderall for 3 years, and have not lost weight,even though my appetite was supressed unless I wanted to, and that was through diet and exercise
How long have you taken this medication? Your appetite should come back after awhile.

My little boy has been on several of the all day doses and they all basically killed his appetite. He is small for his age anyway and that has reallly concerned me. He has not lost weight but he has not gained weight either and this has been for 2 years. I finally put him back on a low dose that he has to take twice a day. My daughter is on the once a day concerta and it does not affect her appetite at all.?

Maybe it will help, if you get additional calorie intake with fluids like "Ensure drinks" (they have one for gaining weight, make sure you check on the can) or if you are not big on eating breakfast, you can try to get some calorie intake with these so called liquid breakfast drinks (Carnation Instant Breakfast). Unfortunately decreased appetite is a side effect on stimulant medication and my son is experiencing the same on Strattera (non-stimulant).
