strattera and pot smoking? - ADD / ADHD Message Board

Has anyone taken Strattera while engaging in occational pot use? My fiancee is on Strattera and has cut out pot entirely, but would like to smoke once or twice a month. I am concerned about how this will affect his medication.

The first thing he needs to realize is that even without figuring the Strattera in he needs to realize that he is killing off brain cells everytime he smokes pot. Pot is not something that should be with any prescription medication unless a doc has approved such as for cancer patients etc.

If his AD/HD treatment/med is working he shouldn't want to smoke pot since his treatment should be treating the areas of his brain that 'wants' the weed effects; although, he 'may' still be in a 'withdrawl'. Try adding in fish oil. That will help the area of his brain that pot has effects on.

I know a man that I beleive is ADD, but was never diagnosed. He is a responsible man, father, husband, and an all around good man. He smokes and he says that he feels, that he thinks clearer when he has.

I don't know what to tell you except that I was always under the impression that it would kill brain cells needed for clear thinking, but I am confused as he disagrees.

Is your boyfriend on any stimulants or any meds for the ADD? If so, then I would check the combination out first.

Yeah I was the exact same way as the guy you know; when I wasn't completely under the unfluence at least. Once I started getting treatment for AD/HD those impulses were 'erased' from my brain. IMO, smoking weed is 'better' for the brain than drinking alcohol; however, they obviously both do 'damage' and eventually cause depression.

To the original poster, that is another factor in the equation. Everyone who quits smoking weed (that has smoked consistently) will become depressed. There is a great chance that AD/HD, depression, withdrawl and not being stabalized on any med are all intertwined here.
