I'm pretty frustrated right now. I was surprised to see the board and am grateful for the support. Mary was dx with ADHD when she was 6. She is now 11 and is in the 5th grade. She took Concerta about two years ago - the ER - and, although she had few side effects, it didn't really seem to control symptoms. She's taken dexedrine for a year and was on it before several years ago. So far, I have to say, it has been the best for her. She was taking 30 mg ER in the AM and then at 3:30 another 5mg ER. In addition, she took a minimal amount of clonodine at night to help her sleep. She's always had disastrous results with non time-released meds - major rebounding. Two weeks ago, Dr. said Strattera might be the answer. She had held her weight for 4 months with the dex and since I wasn't really satisfied with afternoon/evening results, we tried it. In the two weeks she's been on it, it seems only to be getting worse. She had nauseau and vomitting (just in the last 3 days), cried every day and gets in combative argruments with me when she gets home from school. She's exhibiting some pretty major anxiety (i.e. be careful driving, what would happen to me if you died, I'll never pass 5th grade, middle school will be too hard, etc.) In addition, I've seen some pretty bizarre other things in the past few days - repetitively doing handstands on the wall, motor movement has greatly increased to the point that she is out of breath talking to me. She pounces on the cats if they should walk her way or she "hunts" for them. I have not been able to keep her on task with anything. This AM, I met with her teacher and was shocked. At least with the dex, the teacher was relatively satisfied. Now, she said she just "blows her off" and seems like she doesn't care whether she completes anything or listens to anybody. She is going to the bathroom quite often also. The only other time I saw OBC behavior was when she was taking Adderal. She only took it for 6 days and was doing cartwheels on my bentwood rocker over and over again. She also would climb on the washer and put her feet in and then turn on the water. She "accidently fell" into our lake several times, and caught every frog she could get her hands on every night at Bible School. (I found frog carcasses in my car glove compartment and side pockets for months!!). She says now she "hates" her life and yesterday brought home a pamphlet on suicide from the school. So, that's enough! We have an appointment with her Dr. tomorrow at 12:30. Any suggestions? I do know I want her off this stuff!
