conserta - ADD / ADHD Message Board

Can anyone provide me with info on the long acting conserta? My 10 yr old son is just ending with straterra as he was doing worse than better with personality changes,anger,and defiance after 4 weeks.The neurologist suggested conserta 36mg then 54mg.Is this drug less harsh than adderall.My son was on adderall for years with much success until recently at 40mg per day it was too much.It created anxiety and insomnia.Thanks for any feedback.

Of course every child is different,but my son took Adderall XR for 4 months and his rage and anger and frustration only got worse. We went back to his original med Concerta 54mg, w/Strattera as a supplement. We never had any trouble w/the concerta except the Pediatrician felt that he may have built and immune system (kind of) to the concerta. He had been on methalphenidate(sp?) since he was 3. We tried the adderall but that was ridiculous. We've been trying to get his med right for sometime now. He's 10 and puberty along w/his emotions are changing drastically right now and we can't get it right. He goes to counseling April 15 and we will start doing his medication mgmt with the psychiatrist who will learn and know more about him. Good Luck.

My 12 y/o son started taking Concerta a couple months ago. He said he felt a little "off" to begin with, and had a headache for the first couple days. But we kept with it 'cuz it wasn't anything severe, they upped the dosage once to 36mg/day. He had some lack of appetite and was given periactin for that which helped tremendously. The Concerta lasts most of the day, so we only deal with total wackyness when he first wakes up and sometimes late in the evening. Overall I'd say it was working very well... good comments from school too.

Hi Mvhunt. Same here with the Concerta 36.he is doing better in school and at home as well.Still alittle rude at times.I do not know how long it takes for the straterra to leave the body completely.He is starting to get some of the tics back ie: licking lips .Hope it the good news continues.

Hi RhondaBradshaw. Good luck with your April 15th appointment with the psychiatrist.We are considering seeing one for our son for med.review but I am uncertain how it works.does the psychiatrist provide therapy or just medication advise.Our son is doing so well on the Concerta 36 at this time but I am interested in helping him with his lip licking (tic ?). any info would be helpful.Thanks for your previous advise as well.
