My daughter will not swallow a pill - ADD / ADHD Message Board

My 6 year old was supposed to start Concerta 18 mg. today. I know that the pill has to be swallowed whole, but she refuses. I tried ice cream, putting it all the way back on her tongue, giving her soda, had several other people try, etc., etc. It got ugly here and I don't think that'll she'll take it tom. either. Did anyone ever have to give up on a med. for this reason? I've tried everything people suggested on other posts, but nothing worked. Any help I can get I appreciate. Thanks

Has your child taken tablet medication before? If not get some mini M&M's at your local convenience mart and have her practice with those. Also if you put it in pudding it might be better than ice cream since this is slipperier than ice cream. Also did you doctor consider the fact that your child has trouble swallowing pills when he prescribed this particular medication? Your only other option is to ask the doc to switch the script to ritalin instead concerta which is an extended release formula and get it in liquid form.
