Tenex for Tics - ADD / ADHD Message Board

I have a 11 year old daughter who is currenly taking Concerta 45 a day. She has developed a tick, picking (scratching)her face and hands, Her Dr. is adding Tenex (sp?) taring tomorrow. Anyone know anything about this drug? She also takes 10mil Paxil.

Tennex was prescribed for our son to to help with ADHD that seemed more related to anxiety. He also had some tics. With tennex it is important to follow the instructions carefully, increase the dose slowly, and monitor blood pressure (which can be done at any fire station). It was originally a medication for lowering blood pressure and then research indicated that it also worked for some people with ADHD. Our son got hyped-up when we tried Ritlan and Tennex was the alternative. We have since started Strattera and reduced the Tennex almost to nothing. He seems more even-keeled with Strattera. With Tennex, he took small doses three times a day and the effect was uneven.

Somewhat, but he never got fully to dose because it made him feel too tired.

My 6 year old son was perscribed tenex because he got vocaltics when he was started adderall xr 10mg for ADHD. Since his hyperness is a real issue, and he got the tics after using the adderall (a med he can't tolerate) we tried guanfacine (tenex). .25mg am and .25mg pm, with the 3rd day raise it to .5 mg 2'xs a day. He passed out about 1/2 hour after taking the med, and we couldn't wake him up. We stopped the guanfacine and are still left with the tics and with the ADHD. We're taking a month to think about our next move. It seems our son is super sesitive to medication. The side effects were potentially worse for him. I wish I had some better news to report.
