| Re: ADD and ADHD
Well, it should start working right away.
It may be that your son will need ADD medication all his life. It may be that once he gets a little older, (maybe 12) he will be able to control himself without medication. Or maybe he'll need it until he finishes school, but manage without it at work.
As he grows, the necessary dose might change. He might even switch to a different medicine.
I was diagnosed at age 19, and I took medications just for a few months. I LEARNED the skills I didn't have before. How to write, how to pay attention, how to take notes, how to use a planner. I completed my education and I manage pretty well at work. Heck, I once had a colleague call me organized! I almost fainted!
I now use ADD medication just a few days a year, when I have to do some task that I find extremely difficult.
