Wellbutin---for ADHD/Impulsivity instead of Stimulants-need feedback - ADD / ADHD Message Board

We have tried everything for my 13 yr old son..ritalin, concerta, and now strattera...since puberty nothing is working. "Help" said to maybe try Wellbutrin...I know nothing about it...please share any info...good or bad

At high doses Wellbutrin 'can' 'act' like a combo of strattera and a stimulant. Unfortunately the only way to find out if it is going to be successful is by trying it. Does your son take fish oil ? Mega doses of quality fish oil have been shown to be beneficial. What about amino acids i.e. tyrosine and phenylalanine ? Has he tried biofeedback before ? What med(s) worked prior to him 'hitting' puberty ?

Dear Help,
He was on ritalin 1st-5th grade...in 5th he switched to concerta...once a day and no visit to the nurse. Thar seemed to work until late 6th grade...he still took it and did well through 2/3rds of 7th grade but the impulsivity was getting worse. About March it seemed to stop working and have a negative reverse effect...made him more hyper and really messed up his sleep. Tried Strattera for 5 weeks but just stopped. Right now he is taking nothing and he isn't easy to live with but seems in a better mood.
Will have him re-evaluated starting in August and then maybe we will know more. Have to say as puberty became more pronounced the meds worked less

Have you thought about getting a SPECT scan done to see what is going on ?

What is a spect scan? He will have a intake history, an educational evaluation, a psych evaluation and a neuro exam...haven't heard of a spect scan?
