ADD Rx Online?? - ADD / ADHD Message Board

I have had a horrible time getting an appt. for an ADD evaluation. Are there any places online that can diagnose and prescribe? Thanks in advance!

No you cannot be diagnosed online. You need to have some testing done at a clinic that does testing for ADD. It would be to easy for someone to diagnose ADD if they could do it on the web plus some of the tests are electronic so to speak if something like the tova test is used.

If you have health insurance, contact them for a list of mental health professionals and pick one. The soonest appointment I could make was within 3 weeks to talk with a Psychologist. My second appointment was with a psychiatrist (about 4 weeks later was the soonest they could see me). My Psychiatrist then prescribed Adderall for me, so the wait was well worth it.

When I was young, I was diagnosed with ADD and was put on Dexatrine until the 11th grade, then I was completely taken off it because the doctors said I would outgrow it, and that the medication I was taking was not suppose to be used when you're a young adult. This was about 10 years ago so I finally went to see the psychiatrist who explained that back then, they didn’t realize that you don't "grow" out of it, so for the last 10 years I've been dealing with my ADD. It's great to be feeling like I did when I was in high-school again.

It is better in my opinion to ask for a referal from your doc to a clinic that tests for ADD/ADHD. The clinic will have staff there to do the testing and then a psych doc to go over your test results with you and suggest a treatment plan or several treatment options which may or may not include meds and/or counseling depending on your test results.

Thanks for the replies. I visited the Dr. associated with my insurance and (unbenounced to the Dr.) I was referred to a facility that no longer does ADD testing. The Dr. and I have been playing phone tag, but I think that I will be referred to a place that does testing.

One thing I notice is that some individuals get referred to a psychologist or psychiatrist. My Dr. mentioned that I could be referred to either one of those, but I was expecting the Dr. to show more initiative I guess. I will be talking to the Dr. in a day or two, so I will see where I get referred.
