Re: Questions about Adderall

Another thing that has been strange for me about Adderall is that some days it gives me a little boost of energy, but today, it made me extremely tired. And I don't mean that it gave me energy for awhile and then I crashed (which has also happened). I mean that as soon as the medicine kicked in, I felt wiped out. As soon as I put my girls down for a nap, I went into a deep sleep myself. So strange. I never know from day to day how it is going to affect me. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Questions about Adderall

Yes, how I responded to Adderall sometimes varied from one day to the next. And my psychiatrist said it was OK to take in only on "special occasions." As long as you are taking it to focus better in the daytime, rather than to diet or do without sleep, it's probably ok.

Re: Questions about Adderall

Thanks. I have actually been sleeping very well every night. Although the meds have slightly reduced my appetite, I have still been eating 3 full meals and a few snacks a day. I am hoping that the way I respond to the meds will even out over time. The week before my follow-up visit, I am going to record how I am feeling hour by hour to show my doctor. I don't remember if I got that idea here or on another board.

Re: Questions about Adderall

I went to the doctor last Wednesday, and I explained to her how I was doing on the Adderall. She raised my dose from 20 XR to 30 XR. I was doing great for a few days- focused, alert, productive, etc. Then I started doing that middle of the day crashing again. Today, after actually getting to have a LONG night's sleep, I got really tired as soon as my Adderall kicked in. I'm beginning to think this just isn't the right med for me. She told me to call her in a week or so to tell her how I am doing. I am wondering if I should see how I react to Adderall IR or a different ADHD med. If neither of those things are better, I may just want to get back on Wellbutrin (which I have been on for depression. It seemed to slightly improve my concentration). In any case, I will also be asking her for a referral to a behavior specialist. I know that even the best med isn't going to solve my problems for me (however, if I was on a good one, I could be doing more to teach myself).

Re: Questions about Adderall

Have you tried Ritalin?
I didn't like Adderall kinda for the same reason you are saying.
It wasn't very consistent.
I go today to see what's next.

Re: Questions about Adderall

I haven't tried Ritalin, but I would give it a shot. I decided to log how I feel each day (morning, afternoon, evening). If it stays really bad, I will call her after one week. If it is back and forth, though, I might give it an extra week to see if things even out. I also wonder if the holiday stress had an impact. It would be good to see how I'm going to do now that that is over. What are you taking now?

I just started Ritalin LA
so far so good, just today

I stared my first month (Nov.) with Ritalin (regular like a 4 hour)
then she tried me on Adderall (Dec.) which lasted a long time,
I guess it was regular release but for me it lasted all day
and if I had too much (which 10mg was) it interrupted my sleep...
I would crash, sleep four hours, be wide awake for an hour, sleep four
even when I was taking 5mg or 7.5 mg of adderall...it was like still
every other day I was lazy, procrastinating and distracted....

in my opinion...I think it's the way my body processes that med...
it stays in my system longer than the Ritilan...and when I take my next dose...it accumulates and makes me over-medicated?
bothers my sleep...etc.
(someone told me the half-life is like 2 days for adderall, I guess that's how long the med stays in your system, I never knew that term, half-life)

My doc told me today that there are many different meds to try...
so I just told her what I liked about the Ritalin, but that it needed to last longer and so this month we will see how it goes....
thus, I got Ritalin LA 20mg
I go back January 18th

Re: Questions about Adderall

I hope that you continue to do well on the Ritalin LA. I'll be interested in hearing an update from you after you've been taking it for a week or so. It might help me to make a decision.
