Ritalin LA

Starting a new thread as my other one was getting too long and old.
update:
New to ADD meds
Nov. (2011) Ritalin reg. 4 hr pill 10mg or 20 mg worked well
but of course not long lasting and to second dose later in day
was less effective
Dec. (2011) Adderall 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg didn't matter every other day was
good/bad and it messed with my sleep and mood
...could be because
it was generic or just too much of something I didn't need
Jan. (2012) Ritalin LA 20mg too high ok for a day or two then I would be worn
out or anxious and need a day off. It was ok sometimes.
But I think
I could be the way I metabolized it.
I felt it was too high because it
made me more sensitive to stress at times.
THIS WEEK: I returned to pdoc and got
Ritalin LA 10mg with an additional script for the other 4hr pill of reg to supplement because LA only goes 8hrs.
So far so good. Got through PMS more productive than normal, only a little tired.

But it seems I get a ringing in my ears sometimes and I sometimes wake up at 3 a.m. and can't go back to sleep till 4:30?

Thinking this may only be because when I PMS, my metabolism is a bit sluggish so I need to watch my diet more closely and make sure I have enough salad, fruit etc. and exercise...even if I don't feel like it!

Like any extended release, it must digest differently?
Some part of it must wake me up at 3 am!
I don't know. But I am happy today.
I got enough sleep and my mind is clear.

Re: Ritalin LA

Its good to hear youre still working to get your meds and dosages figured out. Sometimes I wonder how we are able to keep going with meds like we do, but it's absolutely worth it in the long run. We have to be patient and maintain our focus and perspective. We're worth it! We're like Thamas Edison who had to experience several (probably a gross understatement) failures before he invented the light bulb. Lets hope none of us have to experience as many failures as he did, but the point is that he had his eye on the prize and didnt let anything deter him from striving toward it. Thats an example we can all follow, ADHD or not.

Its been pretty quiet here lately and im glad to see you still here and keeping us updated.

Re: Ritalin LA

Thanks! I am thinking this set up should stick for a while! I like your illustration.
Meds or not, I still work on getting the most out of my time....
trying to stay positive and balanced

Re: Ritalin LA

No more ear ringing to note and no more waking up middle of the night...
good and good.... but now 10mg seems to be weak
like I keep wondering if I forgot to take my med?
ugh anyway, whatever at least, less is best and
I can wait until next month to talk to the pdoc about it.
I like that I can have coffee and not worry about too much stimulant.

Re: Ritalin LA

10 days later and Ritalin LA 10mg still seems to hardly help me.
I can think somewhat more clear (focus) like on school work but
No way do I get much else done.
(Besides what really has to, and even then It's very minimal and blah)
Kinda feeling like back to square one.
I liked adderall when it worked....
I wonder what else I could try that is not so many meds as adderall
But gives me more functionability than Ritalin
(Or maybe brand name adderall is better than generic?)
Is Dex or vynase something to consider?

Re: Ritalin LA

think I have finally settled on a suitable med

I went for my monthly pdoc appointment.
This time to report on the Ritalin LA.
Since last month I also had a script for Ritalin IR 10mg
I told her I found myself using 20mg of the IR more than the LA.
So, this month I have Ritalin 20mg IR up to three times a day.
It is so much better. I know when it's working. I have more control this way.

Now, I just have to remember to take it before I get busy doing everything else and to be sure it travels with me and I don't lose it!

Also, I can cut it for 10mg if I feel that's what's needed.
and if I only want 40mg one day that's fine.
I need the flexibility. And the IR better suits my metabolism.
