The doc gave my son 4mg intuniv to take twice daily. I have read on on the intuniv web site that you are only to take one pill once daily. I called the doc cause after a day of taking it my son was looking like a zombie, always sleepy, and stomach hurting. I then questioned the doc about the 4mg twice a day and told them about what it said on the web site and they said it was ok to take it twice a day, but back it off to one for now. I am not going to give it to him anymore period, but my question is has anyone been told or have taken more then the one 4mg dosage. Am I correct or not on the amount to take per day?
8 mg per day is an extremely high dose for children. The recommended starting dose is 1 mg per day, with 4 as the maximum. I have no idea what the doctor was thinking to start him at 8.
I apologize for my rather useless reply. It infuriates me to hear about yet another grossly and dangerously incompetent doctor. The guy should have his license revoked, then thrown in jail, then throw the key away.

Download the full text (PDF) and study it. It is the major portion of the new ADHD guidelines for physicians. It will give you the knowledge to communicate with a good doctor and the ability to spot and avoid the incompetent.
You may want to give a copy to your next doctor. Personally I could not ever again trust the bozo that prescribed 8 mg of Intuniv for a 4 yo child. Your son's "zombie" effect came from dangerously low blood pressure.
8mg for that small a child. wow. tooooo much. poor little guy. My son, 8, weighs 52 lbs. He is on 4mg a day. 4 mg is the max dose, not 8. .....It's time released and my son has trouble sleeping so dr has him take 2 in the am and 2 when he gets home from school. He has adhd and asbergers.
Thanks for all the replies so far. I don't know what doctors think anymore? Maybe they think parents are stupid and won't do research on prescriptions. I called them and had a conversation with the assistant and the assistant said the doc is allowed to give up to 8mg a day and I said no it says no more then 4mg so we got into it on the phone and she still feels 8mg is fine for a 5 year old. I have not given him any since this problem and he hasn't been sick at all.
