| Mommy to Newly Diagnosed ADHD Child- Advice
Hello,
My Son was diagnosed with hyper ADHD 2 Weeks ago. It was a long road before getting him to the specialist to finally get disgnosed. He was "let go" from 2 daycare centers for constant aggression (hitting, biting, thowing things, yelling) at the teachers and other children. I had tried every behavioral schedule possible, from the time out chair, reward system, counting to 3, and even tried spanking for the sever actions. Finally after daycare number 2 and a stack of incident reports from both schools his peditrition referred me to a specialist. She diagnosed him with ADHD and recommended that I put him on Clonidine or the issues we were having were just going to continue to get worse. So we started him on a fourth of .1mg twice a day. At the begining (first week) he was more calm and a little more sleepy after he took the medicine. After the first week into the Second (this week) I only see a slight drowsy after the morning dosage and none in the afternoon. My only concern is he is still very aggressive at school. He trys to bite the teachers when they re-direct him, throws books and other toys accross the room when he is told to do anything, and flops on the floor kicking and screaming when he doesnt want to do something. Just this morning when dropping him off the teacher came over to say hello and good morning and he screamed NO! Leave me Alone and threw the book that was in his hand at her.
The teacher looked at me and said its ok and walked away. I told him that was not allowed.
IM lost and do not know what to do next and extreamly worried Im going to lose another daycare. These daycares are not cheap and Im even paying top dollar for the daytime monitoring camera system at the new one.
Is this normal? Is there something else along with the ADHD wrong with him? Has anyone else seen this behavior in their children?
The doctor said this was the only option due to his age and until he turned 4.
My step daughter who also lives with me has ADHD and she is nothing like this. We have her on a strick routine and she has gotten 100xs better.
Any and all options to better things for my son Im open to. I just know if this is not controlled before he goes into school, there are going to be bigger issues at hand.
Thank you,
Andrea (mom)
