Post whoa......

Last March I was surfing the web and found an ad for buying hydrodone online. I didn't believe it was real but guess what? Next day I got 60 7.5mg Vicoden expressed to my door. Didn't even have a phone consultation. Now I have a nice supply. The use has been strictly recreational and I regret it now immensly. I went on vacation in the beginning of June and didn't take anything with and I went through terrible W/D's and went to the emergency room perplexed. After 5 days of course I went back to my secret stash.
My problem is I want to taper off but I always end up taking between 7-10 pills at night.
I am an alcoholic with 5 years of being alochol free. I guess I am too pig headed and ashamed to tell anyone. I have been avoiding my A/A group and just don't know how or where or when to get off this coaster.

Nikka, instead of pointing you to the thread here is what I provided another member here. Not sure of your situation details but this is a time based taper that has been effective to some. Tapering is such a difficult process to follow and NOT cheat on. I always tell folks here most can't do taper, and I really mean most and it's not failure on anyone’s part it's just so terribly difficult no to cheat when you know one itsy bitsy pill will make all the hurt (W/D's) go away. If you have any questions let me know, I am a man of experience both with taper and cold turkey (LOL I guess)

OK Root your clarification helps out greatly. I know you’re not taking any pills at night but rule of thumb is to get on a schedule even if you have to take them in the middle of the night. Let’s see if we can adjust the schedule based on your new information. You’re going to do OK, like you said don’t get over confident or cocky. To be honest the best actors and athletes are always sick before the big game or a performance, so I would say stay cautious, STAY nervous and this will help you not get to far ahead of yourself. I’d recommend starting out at 24, get stabilized and on the schedule the first day, OK? It’s real important that you take them at the prescribed time for this to work; I know it’s a pain but this is where you have to have guts. I know this seems like it’s going backwards but let’s start at 3 pills every 3 hrs. to get stabilized. OK Also to get a 1/4 pill get a pill cutter at the drug store to help get a accurate 1/4 pill.
If you want to not start at 3 pills per 3 hrs to start you could go to 2.5 and I can adjust the schedule, but 3 is probably OK, let me know.
Oh, one thing, you will not feel the buzz any longer or it will be more like a feeling of relieving the side effects of withdrawal, like a runny nose, or hot flashes, or restlessness, etc… so don’t be alarmed.

You will need an interval timer like a kitchen timer or medication timer. The Timex Iron Man watch has auto repeat interval timer built in. In this taper the time between doses is increased each day with occasional dose adjustments. You really have to make sure you hit the times dead on thus the need for the timer. You have to wake yourself up in the middle of the night.

Initial dose, 3 pills each interval
Day Interval Dose
1 3:00 3 pills
2 3:15 3 pills
3 3:30 3 pills
4 3:45 3 pills
5 4:00 3 pills (25% reduction)
6 4:20 3 pills
7 4:40 3 pills
8 5:00 3 pills
9 5:20 3 pills
10 5:40 3 pills
11 6:00 3 pills (50% reduction)(10 pills per day)

======================================== ==========
now reduce the dose to 1 1/4 pills at each interval and begin with day 12 below having a 75% reduction at the end of 22 days and only taking 5 pills per day.

Day Interval Dose
12 3:00 1 1/4 pills
13 3:15 1 1/4 pills
14 3:30 1 1/4 pills
15 3:45 1 1/4 pills
16 4:00 1 1/4 pills
17 4:20 1 1/4 pills
18 4:40 1 1/4 pills
19 5:00 1 1/4 pills
20 5:20 1 1/4 pills
21 5:40 1 1/4 pills
22 6:00 1 1/4 pills (5 pills per day)

======================================== ============
now reduce the dose to 1/2 pill at each interval and begin with day 23 below. At the end of the third period you will be down to 2 pills per day and 90% reduction.
Day Interval Dose
23 3:00 1/2 pill
24 3:15 1/2 pill
25 3:30 1/2 pill
26 3:45 1/2 pill
27 4:00 1/2 pill
28 4:20 1/2 pill
29 4:40 1/2 pill
30 5:00 1/2 pill
31 5:20 1/2 pill
32 5:40 1/2 pill
33 6:00 1/2 pill (2 pills per day)

======================================== ==========
now reduce the dose to 1/4 pill at each interval and begin with day 34 below. At the end of the fourth period you will be down to 1 pill per day and 95% reduction
Day Interval Dose
34 3:00 1/4 pill
35 3:15 1/4 pill
36 3:30 1/4 pill
37 3:45 1/4 pill
38 4:00 1/4 pill
39 4:20 1/4 pill
40 4:40 1/4 pill
41 5:00 1/4 pill
42 5:20 1/4 pill
43 5:40 1/4 pill
44 6:00 1/4 pill (1 pill per day)

======================================== ===========
for the final taper down, take 1/4 pill taking the interval from 6 hours to 12 hours by 1/2 hour increment a day.
day interval Dose
45 6:30 1/4 pill
46 7:00 1/4 pill
47 7:30 1/4 pill
48 8:00 1/4 pill
49 8:30 1/4 pill
50 9:00 1/4 pill
51 9:30 1/4 pill
52 10:00 1/4 pill
53 10:30 1/4 pill
54 11:00 1/4 pill
55 11:30 1/4 pill
56 12:00 1/4 pill
DONE (no more pill taking hooray!!!!!)
