Question Haven't taken my subutex today...what do ya'll think?

Hey yal'll,

Most of you know I started Subutex a couple of weeks ago and there has been alot of discussion on taking it a couple of weeks or so versus taking it awhile. I do not want to be on this very long-I just want to be clean of everything (except for my anti-depressant). I have not taken my Subutex today and feel pretty good. I can tell that I have not taken it, but if this is as bad as its going to get, I can handle it. What do ya'll think about this? Do you think I am rushing off or making a wise decision? I tried to talk to my mother about it, but she just doesn't understand. Just want a little advice. Hope today is finding each of you okay,

Michelle

John-

Didn't you just fall off the wagon a few weeks ago? If you caved while on sub., which is supose to help with cravings, what makes you think that you won't cave now without any help?

Put aside the fact that you don't have any physical W/D symptoms from not taking sub.
Don't you think that the cravings for opiates which you had when you slipped before will be twice as bad now. How do you intend to deal w/ the craving & mental asspect with out the sub. You couldn't deal with it when you were on sub, so what do you have now that you did not have then?

I think that being pill free of any kind is what we all would like be. I'm just trying to figure out why now, when you have been on here telling us how great sub is. Was it some posts that you saw here that maybe caused you to over react? Are you trying to prove somthing to someone or yourself?

I guess that I'm just wondering why after only a few weeks of sobriety would you put yourself at risk of making the same mistake that you made only weeks ago.

Please don't be backwards about going forward.

Best wishes,
Rudder

Rudder,
I just have read the longer you are on the sub, the harder it is to get off. I slipped a few weeks ago, because I had them here and got a headahce. Now, I have no narcotics in the house and have been prescribed "Zomig" (non-narcotic) if I get a headache. Sub is wonderful- I am not saying that it isn't. I could never have made it through the physical withdrawals without the help of the sub. It has been a God-send, but I just wanted to see how bad I would feel if I didn't take it and it is not too terrible. I am strong enough to get through this and then won't have to fight getting of the sub in several months. I'll be honest, too, reading about everyone's "limbs" going dead and the stiffness of everyone- since this is a relatively new drug- what if their are side affects that they don't know about yet? That does concern me. I just feel good and strong- I am on a anti-depressant now, too, so I sure that is helping me mentally. I know I can beat this! Thanks for your concern- I hope I am doing the right thing. I am sure some will think I am and some will think I am not. Take care,

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

You are right, everyone will have opinions about sub or no sub and I guess you were interested in hearing them. I think it's great that you are feeling good, with minor w/d symptoms. The reason you started on the sub was to minimize the w/d while you gain strength to remain pill free. I also have mixed feelings about the sub and worry a little about the possible side effects of a new drug. I have an appointment myself to try the sub. I also wanted to try it to see if it would buy me enough sober time, keep my energy level up and allow me to maintain my game face so I can keep my job, and then wean or taper off of it.

If you are feeling good and it sounds like you are. I think you are making the right decision for yourself. Rudder had some good questions but it sounds like you have decided that now is the time....and it is. We are all different and there are many roads that lead to a pill free life.

Some of the questions I ask myself in preparation of remaining pill free are some that I will post to you.

What are you going to do though when temptation, cravings, boredom, happiness etc, hits? I guess what I am asking is what are you going to do differently when the opportunity/craving/desire arises?

That is how I envision the sub working for me. It gives you time to get your support systems in place and make some changes so that when a desire for a pill hits, you handle it in another way.

I am 100% behind you. Only you know when you are ready.

I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Patty

Michelle,
hi! no matter what you decide I am also 100% behind you! I love your energy you are beyond supportive and positive to EVERYONE! I called for a Doc. today for the suboxone list and found a GREAT one but he won't put me on the suboxone..he said "why would you want another monkey on your back?" I know I don't ( well maybe a smaller monkey would be ok..lol). BUT he did say he would help me and continue to "taper" me (he said I was doing pretty good so far) and that there were lot's of non narcotic med's he could use to help me through this process and to get clean! He said I have to be DONE by dec.18..Cool I can see the holidays and the new year CLEAN this year!! Anyway this is all in my post so I won't blab anymore but I thing you are STRONG!! and just double check with your DR...but I think you are great! Julie
