Post OK....The Doctor (from the list) said no suboxone

Hey everyone,
So..I think eveyone who has read my post's knows..I'm tapering..getting frustrated..screwing up..not feeling good..ok enough complaining. I called some Dr.'s off the suboxone locater today. That was a feat for me..I was scared. Don't ask me why but I was. I just so want this crap out of my life but I guess telling someone in PERSON was scary for me. Anyway, one called me back. He is an adictologist and a former addict himself. We talked for a long time. He's an older man and planning to retire soon. He was so very kind and understanding...not shocked at all etc... He said NO WAY to Methadone . He said my 120-150mg a day hydo habbit was not a good reason to put that monkey on my back (the meth). He was encouraged that I had made it down from 200mg and said that I could do the suboxone but that again I would be putting one monkey on my back and getting rid of one. He also didn't feel like a I was a really good candidate for suboxone.

Since Dr.'s can only take 30 patients..I guess they try and help people with a bigger "habit" then mine. Also since I was able to taper that fast so far he thinks that is the way for me to go. I am seeing him on Wednesday and we are going to work out a plan. So I am really excited that I am going to have some medical help with all this. His plan is to have me clean by Dec 18th! He also told me there are alot of non narcotic medication's that will REALLY help with the tapering and WD process. He mentioned some names..sorry I can't remember them now but they are ones I haven't heard mentioned here. He did tak about the catapres patch though..that was the only one that sounded familiar.

So..I'm excited and scared and on a deadline here! As scared as I was he was so understanding and kind..he told me something of his struggle with addiction as well, which I appreciated. I remember I think Chef saying his Doc is an ex addict and he was great. I will keep you posted and tell you everthing he tells me and about the medication's he plan's to use to make this process less painful.

Thank's again all of you..I swear I would never have MADE that call today of it wern't for ALL of you!! XXX Julie

Hey Julie,

I replied to you about this on my post, but let me say again I am so proud for you. It should really help knowing a doctor (especially an addict) is going to help you with the taper. He should be able to give you some meds that will make withdrawals more manageable. Congrats! That should give you a little motivation and determination to hear him say that you have done well so far and you have. I never could do it- hats off to you! Keep me informed of everything- my prayers are with you,

Michelle

Julie the most important thing I think is to do what the doc says. I don't trust a lot of them but some times you just have to make your self be okay that they know what their doing. I know you will do great and what a Christmas you will have without the pills!

AWESOME news Julie!!!! Just think by Christmas, you will be able to feel good and enjoy. I think it is very important for an addictionologist to have been an addict, himself. They understand and can relate. I think you can taper, i was where you are at, and i tell ya, i feel great, yesterday and today, the fog has finally lifted. I just want you to know that it can be done w/out anything, i am living proof. And believe me, my life is very stressful with kids, husband, ex-husband, court cases. Well keep us posted. You do a great thing and i am telling you, you will be so happy you quit those freakin little *****s!! I do expect SOME bad days, but after a week of hell, the old Lisa is slowly resurfacing. Well, just wanted to congratulate you on making a plan.
Hang in there!
LISA
