Antabuse for Alcoholism - Addiction & Recovery Message Board

Last week at this time, I committed myself to taper off pain pills, and stop drinking. Surprisingly enough, I have found that I can taper okay (I'm down from 10-12 norco/day and 25mcg fentanyl patch TO 4 norco a day!) but I cannot kick the alcohol.

So, I went back to my doc today and asked to be put on antabuse. I don't think I can stop drinking without this major deterrant.

Has anyone here had experiecne with this drug? I haven't heard much about it here.

i have never used antabuse (don't drink).. but i DO know of it. be very, very careful with every product you use. ANYTHING containing alcohol (hair products, colognes, cleaning products, paint thinners...as well as certain foods), can have an interaction with antabuse. read every product info label very carefully to ensure that there is no form of alcohol in it. and congrats on your wonderful achievement in tapering. keep it up...
