Re: Have A Question?

If I were you, I would try not to take the K when you take a pain pill- not a good idea to mix the two. Plus, sometimes, pain pills can slow down the CNS if you sit still/rest!
Just don't want you to "play with fire!"

Take care!

Re: Have A Question?

NP, I'm sorry, but I have to say this: I can't believe, after reading your "When does it end" thread, that you would actually consider taking Vicoden. Why would your doctor ever prescribe it to you after giving you methodone, and your awful experience with it? I can tell you that one Vicodin isn't going to do much for you for very long, and it will all escalate again. I know your instinct tells you not to take it, judging by your other thread about "blowing it", after you took one, but now it sounds like you are actually contemplating taking more. Trust your instincts and find another way to deal with your pain. I know from personal experience that back pain is terrible, but WE CANNOT TAKE NARCOTICS, just like an alchoholic cannot take a drink.

MAYBE I'M FOOLISH FOR CONSIDERING THIS OPTION BUT WHEN I WAS ON METHADONE FOR CHRONIC PAIN IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT ALLEVIATED THIS PAIN THE ONLY WAY I ABUSED THIS MEDICATION WAS BECAUSE MY TOLERANCE WENT UP AND IT FRIGHTENED ME I HAVE A WHOLE STORY SOME WHERE WHERE I THOUGHT I LOST MY PILLS BUT FOUND THEM LATER AND FLUSHED THEM I RAN OUT EARLY DUE TO MY TOLERANCE BUT NEVER DR SHOPPED IN THE MEAN TIME YES I WAS PHYSICALLY DEPENDANT ON THESE PILLS AND IT PROBABLY SOUNDS LIKE I'M MAKING EXCUSES BUT MY BACK PAIN HAS BEEN VERY SEVERE I HOUSE CLEAN FOR A LIVING AND THE PAIN IS REALLY DOING ME IN I'VE TRIED BEXTRA CELEBREX ULTRAM AND VIOXX EVEN HAD A STEROID EPIDERAL MY PAIN DR IS MONITORING MY PILL INTAKE WHICH EVERYTIME I SEE HIM HE'S LIKE WHY ARE YOU NOT TAKING THEM AND I EXPRESS MY FEARS BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO ALSO BEEN TO PHYSICAL THERAPY WHICH DID NOT HELP DO BACK EXCERSIZES EVERYDAY NO HELP I'VE STILL NOT TAKEN ANYMORE BUT IT'S SO HARD TO LIE ON A HEATING PAD ALL NIGHT WHEN YOU HAVE A HUSBAND AND 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IF THERE ARE OTHER ALTERNATIVES PLEASE SUGGEST SOME BECAUSE I'M AT MY WITS END WHEN I STOPPED METHADONE YES IT WAS A NIGHTMARE BUT IT'S THE ONLY WAY I COULD FUNCTION WITHOUT HAVING JABBING TINGLING BURNING AWFUL SENSATIONS IN MY BACK SPINE AND RIGHT LEG I KNOW I'M BEING FOOLISH AND PROBALY MAKING A WHOLE LOT OF EXCUSES EVERYONE HAS HEARD BEFORE BUT I'M JUST FED UP AND THANK YOU FOR CARING ENOUGH TO SAY WHAT YOU SAID IT MEANS ALOT TO ME IT REALLY DOES HUGS AND HELP ME KELLEIGH

Re: Have A Question?

NP: One question, if I may: Is the doctor that gave you methadone the same one who is now giving you Vicodin? If so, does he know about your addiction?

Regarding your back, I do sympathize, as I have the exact same problems. Have you seen a neurologist, and an orthopedic surgeon? Have you had MRI's, X-rays, SPECT bone scan, and the nerve test (can't remember the name)? What do the reports say? Do you have a surgical option? Also, how long did you take Bextra? It takes some time for maximum effect. Have you tried Mobic? Are you taking 800 mg. of ibuprofen three times per day? Do you do the stretching exercises your learned in physical therapy? What about other exercise? If you built a tolerance to methadone, it won't take long to do the same with vicodin, and you will end up right where you were, and I know you don't want that.

ps: assume for the moment you didn't have an addiction problem. Vicodin is designed for short-term use and ill suited for chronic pain, and not a long-term solution. I learned this truth the hard way. In addition, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and anesthesiologists in legitimate pain clinics will not prescribe vicodin for any type of nerve pain, since it not effective for it. My opinion is that you make appointments with these specialists (and if you have, get a second opinion), have the tests done, and tell them you need a non-narcotic solution, and tell them why, and tell us what they say. Good luck.

Re: Have A Question?

HI, BELIEVE ME I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. I have thught about taking my methadone for the pain, but we can't. You should really look into the stretching of yur back, there has to be a dr. near you. Try to think if you want a messed up brain on top of a messed up back. I really don't want to sound mean because I know my back has had me in tears many days. I just would rather fix the problem now then mask it and mess up something else.. Think long and hard what you really want to do because I am afraid you might be beating yourself up in a few months if you take them.I wish nothing but the best for you. I read your post and can tell through them you are a very good person fighting to do your best, and you have more will then I have ever seen..stay strong and whatever decision you make I hope it turns out to be the right one FOR YOU>>you are stronger then you think..

can you believe the pain clinic actually prescribed the vicodin one of the reasons i've decided not to take it is because it is short term i've had an mri it showed degenerative disc disease and 2 bulging discs surgery will be coming but he says its to soon whatever that means bextra i took for about 3 weeks and nothing celebrex i took for well i forget but awhile and the first day i took it it was awesome but then it just quit so i'd wait a few days take again it would work then quit i've never heard of mobic what is it? i've tried everthing i've even taken ibuprofen with celebrex nothing works i'm so sick of it i do my excersizes and walk everyday and end up in worse pain it sucks i guess i'll just deal with it thanks for caring and again congrats on 60 days hugs kelleigh

Re: Have A Question?

K, bulging discs can be corrected with minimal invasion. Which doctor told you it was "too early"? Don't take spinal advice from a pain clinic doctor...go see another neurologist. I have never heard of not treating bulging discs. Degenerative discs are a tougher situation.
