The Power of Honesty

I was half expecting this. Today I got a letter from my PCP that our relationship is termintated.

The practice has signs all over the office stating they do not prescribe narcotics or treat people who use narcotics.

On the one hand, I wanted it on my records so I would never get a legal script. On the other hand, I wondered at the ramifications of admitting to an addiction.

So my quandry now is what do I tell whatever doctor I find to act as my PCP. I have some tests scheduled so I'm going to have to find someone quickly.

And do I delete the parts of my medical records that refer to my addiction?

It's not like there's an abundance of doctors here and this attitude is very prevasive. During the oxycontin - hillbilly heroin crisis several years ago, the DEA stepped in and sanctioned a lot of doctors for overprescription.

So should I reveal it or hide it? Practicality or principles?

Brenda

Brenda,
Honesty is the way to go. There is SOMEONE out there who will appreciate your truthfulness and treat you.

Question is..... what do you want out of it? If you are not ready to give up everything. Go at your own pace. ( I have not been following your story, Im sorry. )

By the way- I read in the paper that if you have a leget pain... the law can no longer interfere in doctors Rx's. (Houson Chronicle) Wish I would have saved the article.

I say always be honest though, your the one who knows deep inside how you feel when a fib is told, no matter how light the shade of white is.

Doctors have families and they want to save there hyde's. It's human. Im just sorry It was you that had to deal with the conciquinces. (murdered that word but oh well, you know what I mean)

The name of your post says it all " The Power of Honesty " There's someone out there that is just like me and you and are educated in med's for addicts.

I will say a prayer for that person to reveal themselves to you.

K? I will be thinking of you,

Sara

Re: The Power of Honesty

Its a tough thing to come clean and it makes it harder when people punish you for it!I had a incident where I had to go to the hosp for an incident which was painful and I actually turned down the Darvacet they wanted to give me.I am clean nearly 9 months from Vicodins and I was scared to death of even taking one pill.I have never came clean to my PCP because I dont want that label they give you although true,it stays with you.

Re: The Power of Honesty

Hi Brenda nice to meet you. My sisters name is Brenda. From what I read in your post you were trying to find a new doctor not to scam for drugs. You were just trying to find a new doctor to treat you with a history of addiction in your medical records. My gut feeling is that you should be honest for medical reasons and so you wont ever realapse with the help of your new doctor. I believe you will find a doctor who will treat you in spite of your history. You might have to make a few phone calls but I think it is possible. Good luck and let us know how it goes Carly
