Clonidine works great for withdrawals. It guards against your pressure spiking and guards against seizures. It will kind of "slow you down" and it eases the withdrawals. It will make you sleepy so be careful. I would throw the Ambien in the trash because that stuff can cause even more problems for you later on. Don't worry about the clonidine....but tell the doc you don't want another tranquilizer(Ambien).
Clonidine does help a lot. It also has a calming and sort of a anti anxiety effect with it. It does help with sleep and can make you a little tired but the benefits do outweigh the negs.
I also used the Clonidine. Personally I didn't feel any side effects (sleepy) and it helped a little with the twitchy legs but not much help for the other side effects. I gave up on it after 3 weeks and went on Suboxone.
