I have taken Elavil (Amitryptline) for over 20 years. You are not suppose to go cold turkey off of it. It can/will send you into a spiraling down depression and you won't be able to sleep. My children can tell if I miss a couple of doses. I tend to forget sometimes to call the doctor when I run out of refills. And you know it always happens on Friday night. My doctor and partners will not call in refills on the weekends or after hours. By Monday, I'm mean as a snake, can't stand myself.

It's not that is addictive like pain pills, etc. It's that you need this medication for whatever the reason your taking it. Talk to your doctor about changing to another anti-depressant. There a million goods one out there. Hope this helps and I'll post it on the other board also.
