can I quit cold turky on 16mg/day suboxone? - Addiction & Recovery Message Board

Acutally this question is about my son. He has been on 16 megs of Suboxone daily for two weeks (he takes 2 8mgs per day). He has been doing great on it, but started hanging with a guy that does Crystal meth. I have noticed in the bast few days that he is not sleeping and is quick tempered, plus I found rolled up paper straws in his room. When I confronted him he went bullistic and broke my door and trashed my home. He pushed me and called me auful things. I went to a motel Friday when this happend and just came home today (Sunday). I left him a message to get everything that is his out of my home, before I came back. He did and is staying at his sisters now, but I do not want to see or speak to him again (or at least until he stops the drugs). I might add that his is 28 years old and has been a heroin addict for 11 years. He, just called me, but I I hung up when I heard his voice. I am so fed up with him and am finally cutting him loose. I cannot help him anymore, when he does not want to even try to help himself. The thing is, I have been paying for his doctor visits and Suboxone meds (which has cost me $600. in the last 3 weeks). My question is, if he does not make his doctors appontment on Wednesday and stops the pills, will this harm him? I thank you in advance for your answers.

I think your wise in cutting him off.If he's serious about getting clean then let him make the moves to do so.Remember, it's not your fault he's an addict and all your doing by paying for things is helping him become a successful addict which you don't want.It's a tough thing to do but it really is the only option you have.Hang in there and don't give in or his addiction wins and he goes deeper into the sickness.....Dave

if he stops the 16mg daily dose he will go into w/d's....to me better deal with them know instead of prolonging the inevitable....i quit several times at the 16 level......chef

hi,yes he will go into w/d but more drugs will cure that and this sounds like hes not ready to give up drugs,so you are reacting in the best way,do not help or make it easy for him to be an addict,but i could not disown my daughter completly so always ended our conversations with,when youre ready and serious about recovery then let me know and i will help,and i do and this is about the 6th time we have done this and she has been clean now for 23 days hopefully this is it,if not out she goes until the next time,i have the clear conscience of not enabling her, many think the best way is tough love and it does succeed for many but i am not strong enough to do this,keeep posting the help and advice you wil recieve is tremendous,good luck,take care, sad mum
