Weaning off of Hydrocodone?

I'm 46 years old. I started taking Hydrocodone/APAP Tab 5-500mg for back pain (2 lower back ruptured dics) over 10 years ago. My back has improved since then, and so has my need for hydrocodone. For the longest time now I've been taking 1 and a half at bedtime, every night for years, I guess it helps with my sleep, the thing is I don't sleep well, but I can't stop taking them at bedtime. Now, I'm in the habit of taking them (2 pills) around 11 am everyday. Why, I don't know why. I would get a little buzz from them, but that isn't there anymore, but still take them. If I don't take them at bedtime or around 11 am I don't feel right, like I'm missing out on something. So, I'm going to see if I wean myself off of them will it lesson the withdrawl's. I plan to start with the 11 am one's, 5 days of 1 and a half, 5 days of one, 5 days of a half, then stop. Nightime, 5 nights one pill, 5 nights half pill, then stop. It sounds good on paper, but will it make the withdrawl's softer. Has anyone ever tryed this, and was sucsessful ?

Re: Weaning off of Hydrocodone?

DJ-
You will find lots of people here who know what you are going through and what a brave choice you have made. I can't give you and advice on tapering, but if you are willing and ready to stop taking those pills, then by all means, take that step and know that you will find lots of support and information here. Best wishes! You can do this. You have made the right choice.

Re: Weaning off of Hydrocodone?

In my opinion only, your habit isn't that big and your taper plan sounds reasonable. Very similar to what I did and it worked spendidly. You'll get to feeling somewhat creepy and you'll have to fight through that but it shouldn't be too bad based on my own experience with the dosages you mentioned.

Keep us informed, and I wish you the best.
