Klonopin Withdrawal

Hi out there. I originally posted this question on the anxiety board but I thought I should try this board as well. I've been on 3mg. daily Klonopin for several months. I've had a bad month & took more than prescribed on several days. Consequently I've run out & can't refill untill next Thurs. I'm suffering w/ severe withdrawals. Physical aches but worse is the mental effects. Severe depression/ anxiety & feel like I'm losing my mind. Does anyone have any healthy advice on how to get through this ? I'm a recovering alcoholic ( 10 mon. ) so this is a very sticky situation for me. Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike! You're not alone. I, too, am a recovering alcoholic (22yrs) and also survived a Klonopin withdrawal 7 1/2/ years ago. Who prescribed it? Get a call into them right away or the doctor oncall. If it's a psychiatrist, they have to know your history. Are you taking any other psych meds? How many times a day were you taking it? How many more a day were you taking? Klonopin gets right into your muscles and is a stinker during withdrawal. Get med help right away. Don't forget, this is anti-seizure medicine and you need the benefit of phenobarbital to get through the withdrawal, or have your doc put you back on it. Hope this helps.

Re: Klonopin Withdrawal

I would suggest looking up Dr Heather Ashton. She is one of the top specialists on benzo and also does a taper. I just have to add how addicting these are and no one should stop cold turkey off of these could be deadly. So if you want to quit I would really suggest a taper. I think the amount your taking could be very dangerous, but your not alone. I have a nephew who gets 30 a month 2mg klonopin and he took 26 is 2 days they found him at work totally passed out and unable to talk. Now since his pills are gone I think he taking something else. I almost think benedryl or something else otc. He's slurring, cant stand, just out of it. Also while on the klonopin he drank black out and hit 2 children who were riding their bikes on the side of the road and had no clue what happened. So I would be very careful taking that high amount and driving a car. You never know what can happen, but there is help. Kim

Re: Klonopin Withdrawal

Who is the doctor u r recomending? Is she on the intertnet? I really dont know why I take so many they dont get me high anymore, I dont want to die, and so scared now of this drug. In June I was taking Klonapin and did fall asleep at the wheel and very very lucky to be alive, I had also been drinking, this was in early stage of using klonopin. I totaled my car and my front wheel fell off and was thrown over to the other side of the interstate and hit a poor ladys car, I am so glad the only damage was to her car, she could have beeen killed. Thank u so very much for your info, I so appreciate it, And goood luck with your brother, He will be in my prayers. I had no idea they even made a 2mg . Why was he taking them, if u dont mind me asking? Take care and God Bless

Re: Klonopin Withdrawal

Just look up the Ashton manual on line. It's a taper schedule...and it works.......it's the safe way to detox........benzos are dangerous to stop cold turkey.........seizures are common..............you need help to get off these...doctor's help............
