? about benzyl alcohol in mouthwash

Hi there-
I was using my son's ACT mouthwash last night and it said "alcohol free" on the front. Yet the first "inactive" ingredient was benzyl alcohol. Being I used to drink Listerine when I couldn't get alcohol (by the way NEVER do this) I kinda freaked . Anyway...what exactly is benzyl alcohol. Why would it be in kids mouth wash? Thanks.

I've no idea about benzyl alcohol but it does'nt sound good.

I hope you dont drink Listerine again. I could not even imagine doing that! Good luck to you.

Marilyn

Thanks Marilyn-
I definitely won't be drinking mouthwash anymore. It just goes to show ya how sick alcoholism can make a person. I am just cautious now of anything that can "flip that switch" in my brain.

Heya Tatoos

I got interested in your question. I looked up benzyl alcohol on Wikopedia. holy Mackeral.... I think I would choose drinking Listerine over ever drinking ACT. Take a gander when you have a minute.

Thanks.. your question led to some good medical knowledge for me. I sure don't want to see any email stuff circulating about it, but I am sure glad to know.

Hi tatoo,

I don't know what kinda alcohol that is, but I've know many an alcoholic who drank mouthwash, vanilla, and even one who actually drank rubbing alcohol. Now, how that doesn't kill you I have no idea!

Alcoholism is the scariest, most insane addiction I've ever seen! And it's legal.

Rediculous!

Glad you're staying away from it!
Shay

Hey Reach-
Just looked it up and I saw it is used as a general solvent for inks , paints , lacquers , and epoxy resin coatings. WOW and it is used in children's mouthwash . I really didn't get all that chemistry mumbo jumbo. I guess I will look at other mouthwashes for me and my son. But I am still perplexed...how can it be "alcohol free" yet contain an ingredient that is some sort of "alcohol". CRAZY, CRAZY.

Thanx
Bella

Hey Shay-
Ya alcohol addiction is VERY SCARY. Out of all my trading addictions thing it was definitely the most futile. Hardest to detox from (in my experience). The devils juice! Oh and on I side note, I see you are in Texas, my son is going there on Thursday...hope the weather is good .

Thanx
Bella
