I'm from the Pain Management Board

I used to post over there about all the med use, but I got to the point I had to change, even with pain I had to get away from the meds. I was rx'd 320mg of oxy per day and it had such a grip on me I had to do somthing. Last sunday I checked into detox, they gave me a little methadone 2x per day, although I thought I was gonna die in there, I was released 4 days later. Here I am 1 week clean, but I aint right. I dont feel like I can go to work and do my job, as it is an outside physical job. I have no umph. all I want to do is sit around. I am trying to push myself to do stuff, but after an our of activity, I sit down aand fall asleep like it drained me. I guess I am writing this because I need someone to tell me it gets better. I guess I know it does, but I need to work. What can I do to get my energy back? I have a wife and 2 young girls that rely on me, and I cant help them hardly do anything. Heck just writing this is taking every fiber in my bean! I need advise..... Thanks for listening.....

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

What you're feeling is completely normal...believe it or not, you are still going through some minor withdrawals! It takes a while for your body to get back to normal. Hang in there!! You will realize every day is better.. Maybe try to take a multi-vitamin to give your body back some of its nutrients. You just have to be patient with your body. Hope this helps, and we are on here to listen to you anytime!

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Welcome Mudbone:
Congratulations on your decision to get clean! I know it took a lot of strength and courage to check yourself into detox.
But PLEASE, be easier on yourself. You've just come off a large dose of Oxy., and u can't expect to feel back to normal yet. Of course your going to still be sick and lethargic. It takes a few wks. to get back on track.
I know u said you have to work, but isn't there any way you can take even just a few days off? You really need to be taking care of yourself at this point. Bcuz it is so easy to relapse and with how sick your body is coming off that doseage in such short time, you need to take care of YOU. Bcuz in the end, that's what matters most. That your well so you can be the best wife/mother/employee.
On this forum there is a "detox plan" listed above and i'd suggest you read over that and pick up some things on that list. Like the vitamins/minerals will help a lot with energy loss. And getting fluids and immodium if your having digestive problems.
But most of all, you need to be kind to yourself....and patient. IT WILL GET BETTER!!!! But your body is in shock from taking the opiates away....so there are things u need to do to help soften the blow.
Others will write and give you advice on what is best for helping along the recovery. Try to take one MINUTE at a time, and get as much rest as your body tells u it needs.
Actually, sleepLESSness is a common symptom of withdrawl, so if your not to that point yet, take all the sleep u can get right now. When i went into rehab, i slept LITERALLY for 3 days straight.
It will get better.....your doing the RIGHT thing and you will be blessed bcuz of it. Hang in there and i'll pray for you.

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Thax maggie & g8tr, I actually sleep pretty well because dr rx'd me valium and trazadone to take at bedtime. I did talk to my boss and will take this week off also for a total of 2 weeks. I just am scared that I will still be feeling this way next week I guess. My wife is getting me some vitamins and some other stuff I have no idea what it is but its from the health food place, her freind recommended it to me. My brain aint working so I dont know what it is, she said its for energy, and for sleep so I dont have to take valium. I dont want another habit!!! On a positive note, in detox they started me on this stuff called cymbalta, so I been taking as rx'd and my pain is actually getting better, not such sharp, stabbing going down my leg. Its more like a pulled muscle now and ibuprophen is helping. That is such a relief! I just need to get my energy back, as I dont feel all that bad, just drained. Thanks for listening!!!

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Hey mud. Congrats on coming clean! I know it is extremely hard to do. As for your energy, it will just take some time. A few weeks at least, but be sure to keep up the fluids and take a good multivitamin. Also, the valium and trazadone can both knock you out, so some of your fuzziness may be the side effects from them. Try to get to where you can do without the valium. The side effects of the trazadone will lessen once you get used to the med. I'm pulling for you!!

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Hi Ready! Thanks for the encouragement! I do only take those at bedtime, so that said, will it have affect on me the following day? I am only taking them because dr told me to and I have learned the hard way not to do as dr says all the time. Get my drift??

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Dear Mudbone, the valium should only last 4 - 6 hours so it should not make you too groggy in the morning. I've been off hydrocodone for a month now. My dr prescribed cymbalta for depression. She does not know of my addiction. I have to say it has helped with the body aches and some of the depression. I think most of my depression is mourning my ex best friend - hydrocodone. I'm still tired but functioning well enough. I wish you the best in your recovery.

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Granny, Thank you for words of encouragement,
me personally, I have no cravings or "mourning" I guess because I was not abusing the meds, just seeking pain relief. I really think the combo of cymbalta, and ibuprophen is really helping enough to where I honestly dont want any narcs. All I want is to get some energy back and I am sure that as long as I can keep pain in check, there is no reason for me to seek out the rotten meds. Yes they made me feel good, but all the drs every month, clock watching, seeing the crying faces of my kids when I started detox, being in detox laying on the bathroom floor dying, There is no way in hell I could call that my freind or want to go back. Everyone is different I know, but relapsing for me is not an option. If my pain gets bad, I will try an epidural or surgury, anything but narcs. I did start a multi-vitamin, and my wife still has yet to get some other stuff recomended from the health store. I want off the valium, but as of now I need it to sleep. Last nite was tough, but woke up early and went for a walk. It just felt like I worked a 10 hour day walking less than a half mile when I got back home. I guess I just should rest while I can. Good luck to you and your accomplishment of a month clean. Just think of all the bad that came with those hydro's, and the road to sobriety is much clearer!

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Yippee, now leg cramps set in after not sleeping to good last nite. Broke out the electric heat pad and more ibuprophen. Helping some. Is this normal?
Or is it from walking and not resting?

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

It's completely normal. All a part of it. The legs is what bothers some people the most. That and the pain that you feel coming off of everything. I've heard some people say that the subutex helps them with pain, but not me. Maybe it's the "fake pain" I'm feeling, I hope so. I start the suboxone today, not sure how it's really different, but I guess I'll see.. The heating pad is a great idea, you can try taking a hot bath as well. Hope it gets better!!

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Hi Mudbone,
I have been off the oxy for 17 days now and finally feel normal.I was using it as pain relief also which is why coming off it wasn't as harsh as I have read. It really had me scared for a while but I hated taht I was foggy and falling asleep when I should be awake and vice versa. I too have been rx'ed trazadone for sleep as my Dr says it is an old school anti depressant which is not habit forming. Sometimes I need it and sometimes not. It took me about 2 weeks to get back into the swing of things again and luckily having a good support system at home has helped. I actually washed and folded laundry on Sunday which was hard and also planted my flower garden! I now find that once I get moving I am ok its just getting my butt motivated is the trouble but every day is better. I wish you all the luck and congrats on quitting the oxy its a tuff road but we survive. Mo

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

Thanks Mo! I Really needed to hear that. I guess whats one of the hardest part of this whole ordeal is not knowing what all to expect. I have been on the heating pad that past 4 hrs and just turned it off. My legs feel better, but I live in south Florida. H Pad+Florida=sucks, but I have actually been chilled since starting this.
G8tr, Be careful with the suboxone, I waited 18 hrs and took 2mg, didnt work, took 2more, still didnt work. I was on such a high dose of oxy (320mg/day)they said they doubted 8mg would have helped me. It just made the withdrawl harder at first until I got to detox and they gave me methadone. I hope it works for you hun! Good luck!

Mudbone,
No wonder suboxone didn't work for you, your doctor did not know what he was doing. If you are on a short acting narcotic you have to wait at least 24-48 hours before starting suboxone so that you are in withdrawal. The time you have to wait to start sub increases dramatically if you were taking a long acting narcotic like oxy. You must stop taking it for at least 3-4, even 5 days. 18 hours wouldn't have been long enough if you were just taking a vicodin, much less taking oxy as you were. If you are not in withdrawal enough you will get sicker than a dog as it will throw you into precipitated w/d's. It was definitely not the suboxone that made your withdrawals worse, it was that you weren't in w/d enough to start on it. Your doctor should have known better.

Re: I'm from the Pain Management Board

You are correct in my dr didnt know what she was doing. I talked her into giving it to me for off label use as pain management and was sort of following this site as a guide. But I am getting better now so glad I didnt even start on sub. I would have that to deal with now. Thanks Though!
