Syndol / codeine addiction and withdrawal

Hi everyone.

This is my first post, and I guess I'm just looking for reassurance and a bit of guidance.

I'm convalescing from a very bad spell of depression, and I'm still taking an SSRI (Citalopram 30mg daily). Over the last six months or so my usage of Syndol and comparable pharmacy own-brand medication I'm up to about 10-14 tablets a day.

I am hoping to get to see a particular doctor tomorrow (good old NHS; can't make advance appts) as she has been strong and helpful to me through the depression. I feel like a fool for letting it get to this stage when I've already kicked alcohol - 5.5yrs sober now.

In your experience/knowledge, is cold-turkey better than cutting down or tapering? I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to cut down and what worked (finally) for me with the bottle was to go cold-turkey.

The other thing I want to brace myself for is whether I might expect any withdrawal symptoms. I've clung on today and not had a single tablet - and in fact there are none in the house, deliberately, but I'm feeling incredibly pukey now.

Sorry for the ramble, would really appreciate any advice.
