Prescription abuse - Why isn't there a registry in place for addictive drugs?

Why can't the government take an active roll in prescription abuse by making anyone who buys prescription drugs (insured or uninsured) show proof of name so that it can be tracked if someone goes to five different doctors?

Cram, you would think something like that would be out there...I can you tho that i workked for doctors for years and when a certain pharmacist or 2 in the area sees somebody coming in often to fill scripts from different doctors, they will call to give the doctor the heads up...but most of the time the doc already knows that person has an addiction problem. What the doc does with that info surprises me alot of the time. but than again , he enabled and he knows it..he helped cre-ate the addict but doesnt have the guts to cut him/her off either...
