addicted to co-codamol

Hi i was wondering if anyone can help me i'm addicted to co-codamol, the doc gave me them because i have trigeminal neuralgia and they were a big help, but i just continued taking them once my symptom went away and now i'm addicted i am trying to taper myself off them but what happens if my neuralgia comes back because i can't take these again. Will the doc be able to give me something else for the neuralgia pain.

Re: addicted to co-codamol

hi - co codamol has codeine in it - so i suppose it can become addictive - though dont worry - i dont think you will have the same agony of withdrawals from this as you would from painkillers that have a higher opiod content. Im pretty sure if you explain your sitution to your doctor then he will willing prescribe something different.
nice to see another 'Brit' on the board

hope this helps

Re: addicted to co-codamol

hi again - ive looked into it abit more now. you're on the higher strength tablets - 30mg of codeine - which is whats giving you the withdrawals - im asuming that you take at most eight tablets a day (otherwise you run the risk of possible organ failure if you take too many) - so thats higher than a therapeutic dose - which is why you are having W/D's . the worst should pass after a couple of days - it may take several weeks to feel 'totaly' over it.
hope this helps

keep us posted as to how you are getting on.
