Sleep

I am 3 days clean off opiates and wonder what I can do to help me sleep at night.I got something from wal mart that has both melatonin and valerian root.I haven't tried it yet.Is there something better than that?

Re: Sleep

Hello Daisy

Welcome to the board. Have you looked at the "Sample Home Detox" yet? Its the second thread on the main board. It has some great suggestions to help you with sleep. The first few days are the worst, then you gradually get better and better with each new day. NyQuil and Benedryl really help put you to sleep. I see you're trying to go the natural way, however you might want to consider those two if you find you still can't sleep.

Take a look at that thread (detox) and give it a try.

Good luck,
Hugs,
emsmom

Re: Sleep

Do you take the nyquil and the benadryl together?

Re: Sleep

Hi Daisey,

I wouldn't advise that. They are both medicines with sleeping aids in them. Go out and buy some NyQuil, take the recommended dose (I think its 30mg) and be prepared to be sleepy within about 30 mins.

If possible, take the NyQuil and lay down - read a book or watch some TV. That way, you'll give your body a chance to relax and let the sleep agent do its job Keep in mind, that your body can become dependent on NyQuil if you take it for more than a few days. I remember taking it for about a week, every night (I was desperate to get some sleep during withdrawal's). Then one night, I didn't take it - Holy crap, I didn't fall asleep until 7am!! So, just be careful.

I hope you get some sleep tonight

Hugs,
emsmom

Re: Sleep

what works great for me is just regular ol' Tylenol PM.
I been taking 2 tablets every night before bedtime for the past two years and I been sleeping well everytime I take it.
