Last Thursday my uncle was taken off of life support. He passed away earlier today. Liver failure due to three decades of alcoholism. It makes me sad to say that there was very little any of us could do. It was his final decision to stay the course of drinking.
For him, it is now too late.
But for you who are working to recover, I have never been more proud. You're probably making one of the hardest decisions of your life, but it is the right decision. What happens with your body is one of the few things you can control in life, and you have chosen to care for yourself. You have chosen to fight the pain and the cravings and the vices that could destroy your progress, and that takes guts. Serious guts. Be proud of yourselves for taking that initiative and fighting for your life. You can look forward to more time with the people, places, and things you really love. Be strong and remember that you are worth it. The community is here to support you as well
