Clean and sober and sore

I'm doing OK today. Something happened over the weekend when the eclipse happened, and my patience just got knocked up a notch. I am not grouchy or irritable, and the pain doesn't make me immediately depressed.

I am now on the 5th day of easy-going-ness.

Still waiting for a car so that I can go to NA meetings as the one I went to in December was really great. I watch Intervention, 28 Days In Rehab and whatever else I can find on pay tv that keeps me from relapse.

I feel really good today though besides the pain.

You guys are really helpful, just reading about what everyone else is up to is good. This is definately the most help I've found so far.

Oh, I have a question b4 I go, when I do go to another NA meeting, how can I get a sponsor? I kind of need one. It'd be good to be able to call someone when I'm feeling not so strong.

Re: Clean and sober and sore

Hey Sorespine,

I am so glad to hear you are doing well!!!! That is great news! I am sorry to hear you are sore.. that is certainly no walk in the park.

I am glad you were able to find some calmness and peace because I remember how hard it was for me to feel calm when I was going thru detox and even for up to a good month after that.

I too watch Intervention or any rehab shows that come on TV... For some reason it helps me too and they are very intriguing (sp?) to me. I am glad they are putting more out there in terms of addiction so it's not such a silent problem.

I am sorry I do not know the answer to your question about getting a sponsor.. I have never attended a meeting but think it would be a smart move.. It's something I am contemplating....

I hope you have good days to come! You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Re: Clean and sober and sore

When you go to a meeting, it will not be hard for you to find a sponsor. Be ready for lots of hugs. You'll meet some very nice people who understand addiction and are eager to help.

When we see a newcomer, the first thing we do is pass around a paper and gather some names and phone numbers of people that he or she can call. Before he leaves the meeting, he should have a good size list of people that can be called in a pinch.

I've heard of newcomers sharing a little about themselves at their first meeting and asking for a sponsor. One guy got a sponsor his first night. Most of us are more picky about who will be our sponsor. I would be surprised if it took more than a month to find one, even if your picky, and it will be somebody you like and trust.

Good luck,

mk

Re: Clean and sober and sore

It seems that you can always rely on this forum when you need help. Its not like talking in person, but typing helps take you mind off of things too. We're here to help and considering my current sleep schedule, I'm up until 4AM - 6AM every night and I usually come to this site a few times during that time. (My next HealthBoard will be on Sleep disorders!!)

Unfortunately, I have not seen any of those programs that you mentioned. My favorite show is "House," which I guess is not the best show to watch for recovering drug dependent people. I just love the medical suspense of the show, not the fact that he's a pill-popping addict glorifying taking drugs.

I'm still clawing my way to where you are and when I can announce to the group that I'm finally detoxed and drug-free. You got there and that is certainly an accomplishment!

Is there Dial-a-Ride or something similar that you can take?
