can anyone tell me how to taper off of klonopin. I take 2 mg a day. i take 1mg at nite, then .5 at 8 am, then the other .5 at 4 pm.
i have been on these for one month now. my doc also tells me to take 1/2 xanax if needed. i try not to do that. i just want off all this stuff. please tell me the safest way to taper off my klonopin so i can be free from it all.
I wasnt aware there was withdrawal associated with Klonopin. Cant you just stop?? When I was a kid they had me on Zoloft and Klonopin. I hated how they made me act, pretty much like I didnt care about anything, so I just stopped. Never took any of that stuff again.
I wasnt on it for very long, and I have no idea what the dosage was...so I guess Im not much help huh??

I'm not sure how to taper benzos, all I know is I didn't taper from taking 1 mg of xanax daily for a month and three days later I had two grand mal seizures. I think Klonopin has a longer half life and the withdrawals aren't supposed to be as bad as xanax, I could be wrong though. I know for suboxone, another drug I have to taper off, the general rule is to taper about 10% every few days or a week. That's a totally different drug though. Can you get in touch with your doctor that prescribed the Klonopin or were you taking them recreationally? can you call your pdoc? I don't wanna tell you a taper schedule, as I have no experience tapering benzos. I think I have a low seizure threshold though, so if you didn't taper, you'd probably be okay but you should, just to make it more comfortable/minimize risk. Good luck!
I take Klonopin on an AS NEEDED basis only but I have heard that to taper a BENZO (any kind) should be done slowly.
What you have going for you though is that you have only been on it for a month. I would personally but I am no expert I would start cutting down on your nightly dose by .5 mg a night for a couple of weeks.... or until you feel stable at that dose... That sort of thing.
Now, the best advice I can give you is to call your Dr. and have them give you a taper plan. I would hate for anything to happen to you on account of my advice.
