I cant stop drinking beer for courage!

I have been in and out of recovery since 1985. I used to think drugs were my problem so I got clean and sober for 5 years. I relapsed due to divorce, blah, blah, blah, and now I go to meetings everyday but go and get beer afterwards. My physical addiction is kicking my butt. The craving is so overwhelming I don.t know what to do. How can I kick this thing out of me?

Re: I cant stop drinking beer for courage!

Hello whirlgirl8,

Rigorous honesty is required for you to attain the benefits of what meetings have to offer.

You have to know what you want and be prepared to make sacrifices when necessary.

There's the physical(body) and psychological(mind) aspect to consider here.

Does one overpower the other or is everything more or less 50/50?

Staying away from the people, places and things that you associated with either using or drinking is paramount.

Respectfully
Phoenix

Re: I cant stop drinking beer for courage!

Hello Whirl

Welcome to the board. :-)

Whirly, the title of your thread is "I can't stop drinking beer for courage!"

Courage for what? Courage to go home after the meeting? Courage to wake up in the morning? Courage to work? Perhaps if you can define in your mind exactly what you need courage for, you can find the core of your problem.

I think a good first step might be determine yourself to go to your meeting and then go straight home. No beer stops. Meeting home and then relishing the accomplishment of not making beer a part of the routine.

Stay with us and let us know how things are going for you.

Wishing you well
