NA,meetings... just a few ?s

Hi guys-
Is NA a 12 step program? What if you don't believe in a higher power? Can the program still work for you?
are there other programs are out there... meetings that is... that are not based on a 12 step program but still are similar in having meetings etc..

Curious

Hello Wendy

NA is a 12 step program,as is CA(cocaine anonymous) and AA.

You don't necessarily have to believe in a Higher Power to attend or be accepted into their programs.

The basic premise is this:"That you admit(to yourself) you are a substance abuser and that you are powerless over it.
That your life,(either heavily or slightly) has become unmanageable as a result of using.

You should be ready to admit that you are powerless over said substance.

The only admission for membership is a desire stop using(this is where inventory of self comes in).

You can still attend any of the aforementioned groups because there's a lot to be learned and even gained(knowledge-wise) in the rooms.

I'm glad that you're at least considering it.
Try it;you might like it.
Take from the meeting that which pertains to you or that is relatable and the rest, simply discard.

You may even catch a surreal meeting in which the speaker seems to be telling your story;having experienced a lot of what you may have been through(I say this from personal experience).

Respectfully
Phoenix

You're welcome Wendy.

You know how we do things here;each one reach one to teach one and the wonderful thing about it is we're all still learning.

Young and senior(too much respect to just place the word o** or e******) alike;we are all still learning.
========================
My 4th was quiet.I stayed home and broiled a few burgers with a secret recipe(actually I was putting everything in but the kitchen sink )

They turned out pretty decent, although my daughter said it was a bit on the spicy side. I told her that variety is the spice of life and was met with a loving sentiment of "oh dad."

These days i'll take what I can get.
Now before I get overly sentimental,I'll say,see you soon and never ever give up;temptation takes no vacation.

Respectfully
Phoenix
