Unhappy I wanna get off the hydro.

I'm 33, been on hydro since my hysterectomy in 2006.
I know and have been though the withdrawal symptoms. ..what can I do to combat then and get through this? I'm a Fibromyalgia patient. ..ugh! I need help.

I have no advice as I am in same situation. I can't even get started....I feel too overwhelmed. Good luck to you, many people succeed and are doing great.

I have heard that a slow taper seems to work the best if you are really diligent.
Or if you have a loved one that can hold the medicine for you, and give them to you at the desired times. Not only that give you encouragement, and love and support.

After discussing my situation with my PCP, I found success coming off hydro by decreasing my dosage in thirds, meaning every third day reduce my daily dose, by 30% of what I was taking.

I still had WD symptoms, but no where near the absolute hell I went through the first time around. CT is not for me, I got too sick.

Hang in there kiddo, and reach out to the board and to friends

Re: I wanna get off the hydro.

Hello Kacey664

Nice to meet you. :-)

At the top of this Addiction Board is a thread titled, "Suggestions for Tapering." It gives many great suggestions on getting through withdrawal and may be a good source of information to you.

Two things that helped me greatly were 1) having a mantra and 2) reminding myself that every withdrawal symptom was actually a symptom of my brain and body being restored.

My mantra was actually suggested by my doctor... "I am getting better and stronger every day."

Oh, and exercise to the limit of your abilities. I was only able to walk, but it sure helped. Running, dancing, whatever, helps speed the process of the brain restoring its ability to produce the chemicals we need naturally and stop depending on the pills.

Rooting for you
Good wishes
