Exclamation Oxycodone and pregnacy

My sons girlfriend is pregnate and i suspect she is still using Roxy's and Xnax. she is around 51/2 to 6 months now. I know she has never stopped using and her mother is prescibed them and gives them to her too. I hate the think what is going on inside her with this baby. My son is on probation so i know he's been clean cause he has to do random screens, also i can tell by the way he acts that hes clean. Been clean for a year now. However he loves this girl and wants to stick with her. I can tell he is getting more and more aggrivated with her and her use of drugs though..... I dont think this is going to be a long term relationship however. But what i want to know is ....anyone out there ever delt with a birth of a baby that mom was on this stuff and how did it turn out for the baby?

Re: Oxycodone and pregnacy

Hi Delores!
I'm no expert, but the baby will most likely be born addicted and will go through withdrawal if those drugs go through the placenta, which I believe they do. to take her off the drugs now could harm the baby, unless a doctor perhaps gave suboxone or something.... But she should NOT stop on her own. A fetus can't go through that.
They baby may be TOTALLY fine, maybe could escape withdrawals.... But could be premature or have learning disabilities later. Again, these are just possibilities. Perhaps call an anonymous hotline to get the medical facts? Or have your son do it so you guys know? Talk to a family doctor? However I'm not sure if they are forced to report these actions tomCPS , but if your son is in the straight and narrow, perhaps he'd get custody while she gets clean.... just ideas....
Again, the baby can be born totally healthy, nothing is 100%.... But one thing is for sure, that girl is an addict and cannot stop taking drugs without talking to a doctor who specializes in this. Your son should know this as, I'd hate for him to get so frustrated that he gets rid of her supply and she goes through withdrawals... (for the fetus's sake, not the girlfriend's)....
Perhaps she can be forced into rehab as she is harming the welfare of her fetus? I dont know....may be something to check out.
The sooner someone tries to get her to just talk to a doctor/ OBGYN, the better and safer formal.
. Good vibes your way!
Wendy

Re: Oxycodone and pregnacy

That's great news! They will give her all the help she and the unborn baby need.
Thanks for the update!
