Post safe withdrawel from oxcycontin.

i have been on 8 oxcycontin pain pills for 6 years.
could you please tell me what the accepted norm for slo. wihdrawel is according to doctors?
iam currently on 150mgs of wellburtrin, and 2mgs of ativant 3times daily, these two meds. seem to help better than the oxcy contin for pain (nerve and vertabrate, damage in lower lumbar spine ).also it seems the oxcycontin stops me from loosing weight ,and it also gives me a tremendous craving for sweets which i have never had before, have you ever heard of any thing like this? i will be seeing my doctor shortly to inform him that i whish to stop taking the oxcycontin, but i thought i would check with your health advisors first
thank you.
gus.

If the 8 pills you are takeing are only 10mgs each then that may not be to much for you depending on your injury. Maybe it's the fact that your takeing 8 of them that bothers you, if this is the case then ask him to change you to two 40mgs tablets aday. If your injured badly enough for a doctor to place you on this amount, then cutting way down or stopping could bring your pain levels way back up!I may be wrong but it sounds to me like your beating yourself up for haveing to take this medicine...if this is the amount that's been prescribed you should have no bad feelings about takeing it....i'm in the process right now of trying to get my doctor to raise me to that level. However it turns out GoodLuck

Gus, just this past weekend I stopped taking oxycotin completely. Due to pain associated with two back surgeries, I had been on it for 1 1/2 years. I was on 20mg, twice a day. I cut back to half that (20mg/day) for a week and then quit completely. I had a long weekend with the worst symptom being difficulty sleeping. The good news is that my back pain that I have lived with for 4 years has almost completely dissapeared. I've been off the oxycotin for a week now and I feel better than I can remember. Good luck with your recovery. ~ greg

Re: safe withdrawel from oxcycontin.

I have been on Oxcycontin for about 6 weeks now for a shoulder injury, it seems to help well with the pain but I find myself acting very impulsive. I take 6 to 8 10mg tablets per day. My problem is I decided to get off them because last Friday I was hit hard with a flu bug. It's only been 2 days and I feel like I'm crawling the walls. I feel scared and worried about everything. I can't sleep and I have to go to work on tuesday. I just feel sick, I don't care about the pain from my shoulder anymore, this is much more worrisome. Can someone reasure me or help me in anyway ?

Re: safe withdrawel from oxcycontin.

Hi-i need help...
Did you stop them before you got the "flu"-you may be experiencing w/d symptoms-cos what you described sounds like w/d-with a flu-you can sleep-in w/d..you cannot sleep/skin crawling etc..
could be both.

Speedy..
im not sure what a proper taper would be..you could speak w/ the dr..maybe someone else has a suggestion.
Opiates for some reason makes you crave sweets-hence the weight gain-or inability to lose.
im in the same boat-can't control those cravings..
good luck..
ggrl
