Hi, I'm new to this board, was on a different one a while back, I've got problems with pain and with getting hooked on hydrocodone too. I was reading Melinda's letter about needing help with her need for the pills and one of the things that came up on the other board was, should you or shouldn't you tell your doctor your need for the medication was out of control. The consensus was, if you do, you stand a huge chance at forever being labeled an addict. From that point on you're going to have problems getting the medication you need if, say, your back does goes out, or you're injured in an accident and just plain hurting. All you'll get from this point on is Tylenol or Motrin. And remember....if you switch doctors, your files follow you! It will follow you the rest of your life. Do you really want that, not knowing what life has in store for you down the line?
Best to work a taper schedule and slowly work yourself down to taking less and less, and taking them further apart. It's not fun, but with a taper schedule there are no withdrawals worth complaining about. The psychological cravings, on the other hand........you're just going to have to talk yourself out of them, one day at a time, one minute at at time, even.
