insomnia

Hello,
I have been lurking between the thyroid board and this board. I have been previously tested for adrenal insufficency and all the tests show low normal. The ACTH stmim test was normal.
Anyway, my thyroid is the bigger problem. I went to see a doctor who gave me armour. I started at very low doses 1/8 og grain. Worked my way up to 1/2 & 1/8 grain with no side effects except feeling better. Well the doctor said I need to up the dose. I did to 1/2 and 1/4 grain. Within 3 days I had sleep disturbances, and other hyper symptoms. I slowly have been backing off until I am now at 1/4 & 1/8 grain. I seem to continue to have sleep disturbances. ( wake up almost hourly from a dream; easily go back to sleep, last night slept until 2am woke up and my heart started racing and I was shaking all over and sweating. I had my hubby get me some juice and it went away within about 15 minutes(low blood sugar). Is this happening because my adrenal system is now screwed up because of the too much armour? If so what can I do to alleviate this? This has been going on for 2 weeks. If I stop the amour I feel like zombie and can't function.
Thanks

Re: insomnia

When I was on before, you saw my results. I don't have them with me. The only thing that you mentioned was secondary adrenal insuffceincy. The question is if I have an adrenal problem how could I have tolerated the armour for 4 months with extreme stress and no problems? I wonder if maybe
I just don't need as much thryoid as people say. I can feel much better on 1/4 grain. I guess I just want to know if there is something I can take like vitamins or herbs that can help with the adrenal fatigue until it resolves itself.

Re: insomnia

I would see him if I could afford him. . Just last night I woke up at 1:30 in the morning with heart palpatations, heartrate of 150, ssweating, shakiness. I drank some orange juice, it went away. That can happen to me when I take strong antibiotics too. Maybe my adrenal system is the problem after all. I stopped the armour. i already have become hypo again.Hope I can sleep better tonight. I don't know about the hyperthyroidism. The only odd test I ever had was the thyroid uptake test. Instead of it coming back low, it came back a little high (13%). Thanks for your input.

You know whats odd ,I had almost those exact same symptoms when i upped my naturethyroid same as armour..Low sugar symptoms would hit me every 2 hrs and I would awake with panic during the night heck my panic got worse all the way around ect..I suspect adrenal problmes with myself as well.. Im taking prednisone still dont feel any better but..Well to beat around the bush..You may not need all the t3 armour is pumping in you some people have no trouble converting t4 to t3.despite what some people believe.

Re: insomnia

Converting has never been my problem. Unfortunately i now have adrenal fatigue because of the hyper symptoms. The armour helped until I reached a certain dose. Maybe after I get through this adrenal fatigue, i will try it again.
I wish I would have pushed this doctor more about giving me some adrenal support. I have mild subclinical hypothyroidism anyway.
