Addison's and weight gain

Hi everyone, I am new to Healthboards. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease about 10 years ago. About 6 months ago I started suffering from extreme fatigue and joint pain. My doctor ran some tests and diagnosed me with Addison's. I am still fighting the fatigue and I have gained over 45lbs in 8 months. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Re: Addison's and weight gain

Although there are a lot of people with Addison's that exercise and keep their weight under control, I am not one of them. I gained about as much weight as you have, and even though I lost a lot before I was diagnosed, I am still too fat. For one thing, make sure you are taking the MINIMUM dose of steroids that you need to keep your disease under control (I take 20 mg total of Cortef). I get almost no exercise because I don't have the desire or energy for it, so I'm afraid I'm just stuck being fat. Better luck to you.

Your medications may be off. Check with your doctor (or perhaps a different doctor) to see if you should have more synthroid or less hydrocortisone.

Re: Addison's and weight gain

Hope I'm in the right info place- have had weight gain despite adjustment to sythroid dose but have also had surgery ++ in past two years - hysterectomy and nephrectomy (kidney removal) both for cancer.Had thyroidectomy years ago. Need more info on Addison's disease.
Thanks.
