Hi, all. This is my first post. My 22 year old stepson was diagnosed with Addison's disease a couple of weeks ago after he had a crisis so severe that he presented to the hospital with a seizure. He had a battery of tests and was diagnosed. After I read the symptoms, it all made sense. There is one thing that concerns us. He was told that he will never have children. How could they already know this? I have read that males with Addison's may be sterile but I was just wondering why they would tell him that and if they could know that already?? He was on vacation and out of state when he was diagnosed so I am not sure what tests were performed, etc but I just wondered if they could possibly be sure that he is sterile. He was really upset by this news. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you!

Hi, this is the first myself and my partner has heard of this and he is 31. However, we have been trying for a baby for 1 1/2 yrs and no joy but he is undergoing a fertility test this week. His mother had be told when he was younger there was a possibility that the hydrocortrizone could cause problems but his dose was identified as too high two years ago. He has been on 3 tablets a day since he was 4. He sees a specialist in sheffield every year so we are to discuss this at the next meeting but i heard of other people on this site having children but it makes you wonder.
From what I have read, female fertility is not affected but males with Addison's are the ones with fertility issues. I think it's iffy but since this is a hormonal thing, I understand. I just don't understand why he would be told he is sterile with his first crisis. He did present to the hospital with a seizure. Had no clue about the Addison's. Just strange and I am not sure that it is true.
