Fasting and Cortisol test

Hi, I was wondering, do you have to be fasting to have your regular cortisol (not stim test) levels checked? I know I have to have it done at 9 am but the nurse said I didn't have to be fasting but I seemed to remember that the Dr. told me to fast but I am not sure, I guess I could just do it anyways. I'm supposed to have it done this Friday. THanks, CJ

Re: Fasting and Cortisol test

Yes.. you need to be fasting for cortisol test. Food increases cortisol levels and you want to see what your cortisol levels are without any outside influences..

Take care
